Our journey

We fly Qatar Airways from Birmingham at 14.10 tomorrow and arrive after a 14 hour journey at 09.40 on Wednesday morning. We have packed and unpacked, then packed again. Graham has to take all his motorbike gear, and those size 11 boots take up a lot of room! We are allowed 30kgs each which is more than enough, but it’s very tempting to take too much. We have been asked to take children’s knickers and stickers, so these are taking up quite a bit of space, and we also have some gifts for our homestay hosts in Fort Kochi (Cochin). We will have three nights in the homestay before joining the Nomadic Knights Tour on Vypin Island on Saturday. I plan to shop for some clothes when I get there, probably at fabindia but I expect I will find lots of other places too! I feel the makings of another blog - or vlog if I can work it out - coming on. There's plenty of sightseeing and relaxing to do too.

The Royal Enfield bikes have been transported on a truck from storage in northern India to Kerala - over 3,000 kms, so we are all ready to go.

Graham and I are keen to help raise more funds for Adventure Ashram so we can continue the excellent work they do. If you would like to contribute, this trip has its own fundraising page here .

Graham and I are off to India with Adventure Ashram  a small but mighty charity driven by a spirit of adventure to directly support vital health and education grassroots projects in India. Graham will be riding a Royal Enfield motor bike with 39 other bikers, whilst I will be following in a comfy air conditioned chauffeur driven Toyota. This is all organised by Nomadic Knights who are experts on these sorts of trips so we are in safe hands.  Our route takes us from Kochi to Goa starting on 4th November but we are going out a couple of days early to stay in Fort Kochi. One of the projects Adventure Ashram support is Odanadi  where our son Tom volunteered for a year in 2010, and we are looking forward to visiting Odanadi again on this trip as well as some of the other projects. Fort Kochi

Our journey here went completely to plan, and we were made very welcome on our arrival by our host, Harry. Our room is simple, but very clean and comfortable with its own, uniquely Indian, en suite, air con, ceiling fan and very hard bed!! We spent our first day getting our bearings and trying to find, with great difficulty, an ATM that would give us some money! Harry offered us an evening meal, cooked by his lovely wife Mary, which was delightful. Ken and Jane, another English couple are also staying here and we had a good natter with them before an early night.  We are really pleased we have visited Fort Kochi before. There is absolutely no need to dash around visiting all the ‘must see’ tourist sites which meant that our second day here was very leisurely. Harry and Mary provided a very nice breakfast which we ate with Ken and Jane, and we all sat around until midday just talking.
